I’ve been a customer with FNB for more than 10 years now. All throughout this time, I’ve been on their second highest banking tier “Premier Banking” (paying around R250-R300 in fees every month).

I have been happy with their services in the past, but during a recent incident of fraud on my account, they have shown themselves to be highly incompetent.

In May this year, after reviewing my financial statements I saw that a debit order had gone off from my account the previous month (April 2024) for about $90 (~R1,600). This was for a service I had signed up for (and subsequently cancelled) more than a year prior.

I was suspicious, so I looked through the other bank statements too. I found two more charges they had snuck in over the years. Turns out this company had been charging my account every 6 months!

I tried logging onto their website, it wasn’t working.

I remember the reason I cancelled was their website stopped working.

So, I googled them to find some news about them.
